LD Pistal

And So It Goes . . .

Time is a friend, though it may not always seem so. Without time, there would be no history. Without history, there would be no pathway. Along the way the elements of living combine in verse, then chapter, then book. But the story never really ends. Like the river of life on which the tale is told, it goes on.

What, you might ask does all of this have to do with one particularly fine Arabian stallion called LD Pistal? A great deal, actually. To him, through an eminent equine heritage, comes unique greatness; and through him it flows. With his birthright, comes a connection by love to a distinguished human family. And in concert, the music plays on.

The components that first brought together the equine and human family trees in this drama were born in times and places beyond this storyteller’s realm. So the tale must begin in times and a places more recent, and hence more familiar.

Three equine generations and three decades ago, a magical chestnut colt was born in the Dutch countryside. In that colt, the blood of his ancestors pooled in a uniquely powerful way. Through him, the power of his forbearers would go on.

Three human generations and well over a century ago, a boy who carried the blood of a thousand years of horsemen was born in the American Midwest. To his son, that boy passed on the horseman’s way, and through the son, that way would go on.

In a mysterious course of events, the magical chestnut colt came to America and found his way into the company of the third generation Midwestern horseman who would become the horse’s partner in life. Through these partners, the story goes on.

  • The magical chestnut colt –– *Padron.
  • The horseman –– David Boggs.
  • The extended family –– Midwest.
  • The generational saga thus far –– read on.

In 1981, *Padron, running beside David Boggs, was named Canadian National Champion Stallion.

In 1982, the pair repeated that triumph when *Padron became U. S. National Champion Stallion.

In 1986, the beautiful bay stallion, Hal Gibby, led by David Boggs, was named Brazilian National Champion Stallion.

In 1990, Hal Gibby’s magnificent daughter, Halana, presented by David Boggs, earned the title of Canadian National Champion Mare.

In 1991, *Padron’s son, Padrons Psyche, presented by David Boggs, won the title of U.S. National Reserve Champion Stallion.

In 1998, *Padron’s grandson, Magnum Psyche, running beside David Boggs, earned the titles of U. S. and Canadian National Champion Stallion.

In 2000, with David, Magnum earned the title of Argentine National Champion Stallion.

In 2004, history was made when David led Magnum to achieve the title of U. S. National Senior Champion Stallion, AND Magnum’s son, Magnum Chall, to achieve the title of U. S. National Junior Champion Stallion.

In 2005, David and Magnum Chall repeated this triumph at the Canadian Nationals.

Of course throughout the years, dozens of other great horses have, with David, enjoyed stellar show careers. But in the case of LD Pistal, this is family.

Beyond the show arena, all of those horses mentioned have made tremendous contributions to the breed through the proliferation of the vital blood they carry. The *Padron sire line stands among the most important in the modern Arabian breed.

And so it goes . . .

It’s 2006, and another magnificent chestnut stallion in the line of *PADRON, is running beside David Boggs into the annals of history. In October, they’ll be among those great Arabian horses to see National Competition in Louisville, Kentucky’s Freedom Hall for the last time. At this historic site, David and *Padron enjoyed their greatest triumph. At this historic site, David and Magnum won two National Championships in Stallion halter. At this historic site, David and LD Pistal will say good bye to one tradition; and, if the fates will have it, hello to victory in another.

A Brief Look at the Rest of LD Pistal’s Pedigree

Carrying a powerful combination of American, Egyptian, Polish, Russian, and Spanish Arabian blood, LD Pistal represents centuries of careful breeding of the world’s most beautiful and athletic horses. Let’s take a look at some of his important ancestors by Country of origin. (listed alphabetically)

First of all, LD Pistal is by multi National Champion Stallion, Magnum Psyche, and out of National Champion Mare, Halana.

America
Three female lines in LD Pistal’s pedigree are of long time American heritage:

  1. G-Amaka ( the dam of Hal Gibby, LD Pistal’s maternal grandsire)

G- Amaka was by, G-Amigo, a ¾ brother to the Boggs family’s beloved and renowned Garis, both being by The beautiful Polish/English Niga, a stallion known for siring gorgeous horses with the biggest, darkest eyes the breed has ever seen.
By the Witez II son, Nitez, Niga was out of the fine Gainey bred mare, Galena.
In tail female, Niga traced all the way back to the earliest American imports, horses brought here from England in the 1890’s.
Among the superstar breeding horses in Niga’s pedigree –– animals revered as the foundation of the breed in America are:
Ofir (Poland) ~ the grandsire of *BASK++ and *Witez II
*Raseyn (England to America) One of America’s primary foundation sires
Skowronek (Poland to England) ~ sire of *Raffles and *Raseyn
G-amaka’s dam, Bint Aka was by a son of Indy, (by *Raffles another of America’s primary foundation sires) Carrying two lines to Gulastra, the sire of Hallany Mistanny, Bint Aka represented another line of the very finest Arabians brought to this country in the early 1900’s from England and Poland.

  1. Durranne, (the third dam of LD Pistal’s dam, Halana,)

Another representative of some of America’s earliest and most beautiful imports, Durranne was a second generation American bred whose grand parents were imported by the great early breeders, Henry B. Babson, General J.M. Dickenson, and W.K. Kellog. Her sire, Dural, was a paternal half brother to the much loved and highly prolific sire, Fadjur.

  1. RO Murtah, (the dam of Tah Zaman, sire of Halana’s dam)

RO Murtah carries two lines to the Roger Selby foundation stallion, Image, who was by the renowned desert bred stallion, *Mirage. Her third dam was the acclaimed double Skowronek mare, Rose of France.

Egypt
LD Pistal traces to Egypt not only through some of the early American imports, but also through *Padron and Halana.

  1. *Padron’s sire, Patron, was by the Nazeer son, Aswan, given to the Russian government by the Egyptian government as a gift following the construction of the Aswan Dam. Aswan was the primary progenitor of Arabian type and beauty in the State owned Russian breeding program.
  1. Halana’s dam, Hickory’s Natasha was by the very beautiful Tah Zaman, was by the important Egyptian stallion Ansata Shah Zaman. By the Glennloch Farms import, *Morafic (by Nazeer), and out of the Forbis (Ansata) import, *Ansata Bint Mabrouka, Ansata Shah Zaman was a double Nazeer grandson.
  1. Halana’s second dam, Arabest Narranne, was by the much-loved Nabiel. Nabiel’s sire, the National Champion Park and Native Costume horse, *Sakr was one of the most successful Egyptian show horses of all time.

Through Arabest Naranne and Tah Zaman, LD Pistal carries all of the most sought after Egyptian blood ever brought to America.

Poland and Russia
LD Pistal traces to the world-renowned Polish Arabian breeding legacy through *Tamerlan, on his sire’s side, and through Hal Gibby, on his dam’s side.

1. Through Magnum:
*Tamerlan, born in Russia, was by the Polish acquisition, Arax, a son of Poland’s beloved Amurath Sahib, who was the sire of *BASK’s dam, Balalajka. An extraordinary athlete, *Tamerlan set records on the Russian race track that have never been broken.

2. Through Halana
*Hal Gazal (paternal grandsire of Halana) was imported from Poland by Halberg Arabians in 1970. By Aquinor, Hal Gazal’s sire, Eleuzis, was a full brother to the beautiful U. S. National Champion Stallion, *Elkin, and a paternal half brother to one of the breed’s all time most popular U. S. National Champion Mares, *Elkana. Hal Gazal’s dam, *Bufa, was among Mike Nichols’ most treasured mares. Sired by Negatiw, she was a paternal half sister to *Naborr and *Salon; and, like them, a granddaughter of Skowronek.

LD Pistal traces to Russia through the great race horse,*Tamerlan, mentioned above. *Tamerlan’s sire, Arax was pure Polish. His dam, Trapecia, was by the Russian bred Pomeranets and out of the pure Polish, Ofir daughter, Mammona, the most important mare acquired by the Russian’s from Poland.Trapecia’s dam, Taktika, was also Half-Polish and Half-Russian.
